The North West Provincial Legislature Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development recently concluded its oversight visit programme with inspections of key agricultural projects funded by the department as well as the department’s internal initiatives.

Springbokpan Silos Project
The committee, led by Chairperson Hon. Sipho Dial, together with members of the Portfolio Committee, conducted the final day of oversight at Springbokpan Silos in the Ngaka Modiri Molema district, North West. During this visit, the Department’s Rural Development Directorate, headed by Director Malakia Matlhabe, briefed the committee on the implementation of Phases 1 and 2 of the project, along with details of other phases that will follow.
The committee was taken on a walkabout to view the ongoing developments at the silos, providing members with firsthand insight into the project’s progress. Representatives from the Independent Development Trust (IDT), which serves as the implementing agent for the project, also briefed the committee on the advancement of the project.

Kgora Farmer Training Centre Oversight Visit
Earlier in the oversight programme, on 7 August, the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development continued its assessment at Kgora Farmer Training Centre outside Mahikeng. The delegation was led by Hon. Mme Tebogo Modise, accompanied by honourable members of the committee and support staff from the Legislature.
The purpose of this visit was to assess progress in agricultural training and development at the centre. The committee visited various programmes, including seedling production tunnels, the chicken layer house for egg production and the poultry abattoir, which play a key role in agro-processing training.
This visit forms part of the committee’s commitment to monitor service delivery and strengthen food production efforts in the province.
