The Janmarck stud of the Du Plessis brothers, Jannie, Bismarck and Tabbie, is busy excelling in the Beefmaster industry. This was evident from their good performances at the national auction and their recent eighth production auction.

This stud from Bethlehem sold two bulls for R220 000 each at its production auction on 24 July, while their females also achieved good prices.
The most expensive bulls at the auction were JAN 22-2125, which was sold to Nooitgedacht Safaris (NGB Beefmasters), Thabazimbi, and JAN 22-2076, which was purchased by Chris van Heerden and Christian le Roux of Gantouw Beefmasters of Bronkhorstspruit. Both buyers have been clients of Janmarck Beefmasters for many years.
Janmarck also received R50 000 for a pregnant cow, JAN 20-0127. The buyer was Rhind Beefmasters of Senekal. All three of these top animals were bred by the brothers.
All the animals offered at the auction were sold. The bulls achieved an average of R80 000, female stud animals an average of R23 000 and commercial heifers an average of R18 000.
Tabbie told African Farming that this is the fruit they are reaping after years of hard work. They are very happy with the prices, especially considering the widespread foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks and the unfavourable economic climate. Many buyers attended the auction and many breeders also participated online via the Meerkat platform. “The auction was very well supported online and on the floor.”

At the national Beefmaster auction on 3 July in Parys, Janmarck received R150 000 for a pregnant cow, JAN 21-2156, and her bull calf, JAN 24-4063.
The brothers registered the stud in 2013 and bred purposefully from the start to achieve their ultimate goal, namely to breed the best Beefmasters in the country, says Tabbie.

Jannie and Bismarck are former Springbok rugby players and Tabbie was selected for the Free State Craven Week team. They manage their cattle and crop farming together. They market themselves under the name TwoPlusThree Pty, referring to Bismarck’s no. 2 jersey (hooker) and Jannie’s no. 3 jersey (tighthead prop). Tabbie also played hooker.
The auction was presented by BKB. The auctioneer was Jan Mostert.
