The national auction of the Boran Cattle Breeders’ Society, held is July in the Afridome, Parys, followed the trend of a high demand for female animals. Despite some outlier prices for bulls, the female animals at the auction came out on top.

The most expensive bull was HOT 150034 Mufasa, which, according to the catalogue, is one of the very best white bulls ever offered at auction. The R1 million purchase price included insurance and 200 straws of semen. The seller was Stompie Olivier of the Hotspot stud farm in Oatlands, Ventersdorp. The buyers are Yolandi Botha and Danie Velthuysen of the Iminathi Ranch, Waterberg.
The underbidder was Louis Pissano of Krugersdorp, who later acquired lot 65, the bull Rocky Pym 170014, for R450 000. Rocky, from Hilton Philpot of Pitsa ya Metsi, Cramerview, was named the best bull of the Janvos’ phase D testing in 2018.
Among the female animals the star was lot 132, BMB 230011 Cremora, a heifer from the Picasso breeding line. She is pregnant by M/S DBC 16-06/ W18-179 / BH 18-3781. The buyers are the Hurwitz brothers, Simeon and Jarren, from Davel. The seller is Ridwaan Moola of Moola Farming, Heilbron.
The underbidder was Jessica Malotsha, on behalf of Ntaba Nyoni of pres. Cyril Ramaphosa of eManzana (Badplaas), Mpumalanga. She acquired lot 100, CTP220032, a Zin Zan daughter pregnant from Arthur, for R170 000. The seller is Cherokee Boran from Middelburg, Mpumalanga.

In addition to several other female animals, she also purchased lot 12, BU 220017, and her bull calf, BU 250077, from Makena and Mona Scheepers’s Bosiu stud farm at Fouriesburg for R100 000.
The second most expensive bull was lot 24, ENJ 180052, from Johan and BJ Visser of Vaalkamdor, Douglas, which fetched R700 000. The Hurwitz brothers were also the buyers.
The average price of the 12 bulls sold was R256 000, 12 lots of semen averaged R3 500 per straw, 19 cows with calves R67 736,84, 21 pregnant cows R78 904,76, three pregnant cows with calves R64 000, and 41 pregnant heifers went for an average price of R67 682,93.
The usual auction of advertisement pages in 2026’s Boran journal earned a total of R205 000 for the society.
The selection of the auction animals was done by Marthinus Botha, Marius Barkhuizen and Christopher Havenga (race advisor).
