The government is not using foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccines to control or destroy the red meat industry, said John Steenhuisen, Minister of Agriculture.
He has already spent R72 million on FMD vaccines from the Botswana Vaccine Institute to protect South Africa’s red meat industry, said Steenhuisen.
“It is not in the interest of the Department of Agriculture and government to curb the red meat industry.”
