Loyal buyers snap up Blouberg & Sanleo Simbras at production auction

BKB Bethlehem hosted the annual production auction of Blouberg & Sanleo Simbras with great success on 6 August in the Warden auction pens.

By Salomé van den Berg, contributor at African Farming

The auction concluded with 100% sales, which is proof of the quality of the animals and the confidence of the buyers in these established producers.

The success of Schalk Erasmus’s Blouberg Simbras, Leon Becker’s Sanleo Simbras and Schalk Erasmus Jr’s Lima Simbras confirms their place as leading Simbra stud breeders in South Africa.

With proven breeding stock, loyal clients and bulls that have proven themselves in the field, this auction is a highlight on the cattle farming calendar.

One of the outstanding animals of the day was SE22107 from Blouberg Simbras (lot 17), which was sold for R160 000 to Jaco de Villiers van Reitz, a loyal buyer.

This bull not only attracted attention for its excellent appearance and breeding values, but also for its proven performance. “I attend this auction every year,” says De Villiers. “These bulls have already been put to the test on my farm and I get excellent calves.”

The bulls sold for an average price of R89 000, cows with calves R23 100, pregnant cows R20 000 and pregnant heifers R18 000.

Auctioneer Jan Mostert expressed his satisfaction with the standard of the offering. “What is special about this auction is the retention of the buyers. The same guys return every year, and that says something – the bulls deliver results.”

The confidence that buyers have in the Blouberg & Sanleo bulls is evident from the strong competition and premium prices on certain lots.

Schalk Erasmus finally closed the auction with a grateful heart. “We would like to thank every buyer. We sincerely hope that you will achieve great success with the animals you acquired today.”
