The Van Zyl brothers from Winburg and Verkeerdevlei achieved relatively good average prices at their 27th production auction of Simbras, held in the auction pens of the Winburg Farmers’ Association on 13 August.

Riaan van Zyl from the Rotswand stud on the farm Rotswand and Pieter van Zyl from Maratana Simbras on Stormberg, the neighbouring farm, presented the auction together with guest seller Jenet van Niekerk’s Zarissa Simbras from Ficksburg.
Van Niekerk was also the buyer of the most expensive bull, LZ220106 Rotswand Ronaldo, at R140 000.
The average price of the bulls was a solid R80 000.

Rassie Erasmus of BKB Kroonstad says he has experienced that the prices for the bulls have recently been under pressure, compared to the females for which there is a good demand.
He says the offering at the Van Zyl auction was a celebration of quality, balance and true Simbra type. “Each lot was carefully selected by some of South Africa’s most dedicated breeders and Simbra selectors – breeding material that has been field-tested and excels in the auction pen.
The average price of the pregnant stud heifers was R25 100 and the commercial heifers sold for an average of R21 100.
