Two suspects aged between 34 and 41 appeared before the Ngcobo Magistrate’s Court in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, 1 October, facing allegations of possession of suspected stolen livestock valued at more than R150 000.

According to reports, Ngcobo police received information on 30 September at about 14h00 about the pair allegedly being in possession of a herd of stolen cattle. Acting on the tip-off, police swiftly responded and apprehended the suspects.
Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said further investigation led the police to an Isuzu bakkie that had allegedly been used in the commission of the crime. The vehicle was found concealed in a nearby forest.
During the suspects’ first appearance, the driver of the bakkie was released due to insufficient evidence linking him to the case.
“However, one suspect was remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on 8 October for a formal bail application,” says Captain Mgolodela.
The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, commended the Ngcobo police for their swift response and teamwork. “We continue to witness the dedication of our members in ensuring the reduction of crime in the district. Their commitment to protecting our communities is commendable,” he said.
