Boer goat stud ram Two Stroke on fire at production auction

30 October 2025
in Auctions
Reading Time: 3 mins read
Boer goat stud ram Two Stroke

Two Stroke (762-23-523) was the most expensive stud ram at Lukas Burger's Boer goat auction. Photo: Abraham Burger

The 27th production auction of the Lukas Burger Boer goat stud on the farm Rietfontein in the Griekwastad district went well “under the circumstances” and achieved a turnover of more than R2,7 million.

By Johan Norval

According to Lukas Burger, he is humbly grateful for the relatively high average prices, as there is currently an oversupply of rams in the market.

The most expensive stud ram was Two Stroke (762-23-523), a son of the famous ram Formula One on a Trompie ewe. This ram has been running with the senior auction ewes for the past four months.

Koenie Kotzé of Douglas paid R150 000 for him. Abraham, Burger’s son, says using exceptional rams on the senior auction ewes is their way of adding value to benefit from the ram’s exceptionally good balance and muscling.

The average price of the stud rams was R52 294,12. The most expensive herd ram was R120 000, bringing the average to R23 210,53.

The most expensive female animal was a pregnant ewe (762-24-114), which was sold for R70 000 to Tokkie Ferreira Brokers of Vryburg.

The average price of the pregnant stud ewes was R31 307,69. The average prices for stud ewes with lambs were R18 500, for stud ewes R15 400, for herd ewes with lambs R21 333,33, for pregnant herd ewes R16 838,71 and for herd ewes R8 750.

The average prices for the Kalahari Red stud rams were R21 500 and R27 500 for Kalahari Red herd rams.

André Kock and Son presented the auction in collaboration with CdP Auctioneers at the Little Farm Lodge in Kimberley. The auctioneer was Deon Klopper.
