Here is this week’s AMT Fresh Produce Outlook by Dr Johann van der Merwe, Director of AMT. This week he takes a longer-term outlook on the markets and what to expect heading into the festive season.
This week, potatoes climbed 11% to R51.55/10kg, tomatoes rose to R11.04/kg, while onions and butternuts eased. Peppers, pumpkins, and spinach strengthened further.
As month-end demand cools, oversupplied markets may come under pressure again. However, historical trends point to stronger prices in November and December, with potatoes possibly moving toward R60.
