Mcgreggor Ntuli from AECI Plant Health highlighted the significance of understanding chemical labels and adhering to safety regulations as outlined in the Fertilizers, Farm Feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act, No. 36 of 1947. He stressed that ignorance could lead to accidents and that farmers must empower themselves with knowledge.

The department said demonstrations on how to properly wear personal protective equipment (PPE) were particularly well received. “Satch Mosiane from the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) guided attendees on the correct use of PPE, explaining how it can prevent exposure to harmful substances.”
The department said the discussions on conservation agriculture led by Rathando Rolivhuwa and on animal nutrition led by Nethenzheni Edward were equally compelling, as they advocated for sustainable practices that can improve soil health and reduce environmental impact. “The importance of animal nutrition was also highlighted, emphasising that healthy livestock contribute to the overall productivity of farming operations.”

The department said the Khomele farming community now stands at the threshold of transformation, empowered with the information and tools necessary to enhance their agricultural practices. Farmers expressed gratitude to the departmental organising team for having made possible what they referred to as the masterpiece of a session, finding humour in how farmers have unknowingly and incorrectly administered chemicals without following the regulations that govern the safe use of chemicals.
