The Problem: Livestock Theft Crisis
Mokgohloa didn’t mince words about one of the industry’s biggest challenges: “This is just what we need in this country where livestock theft is just becoming a huge issue.” His concern reflects a widespread problem affecting farmers nationwide, where livestock theft has reached crisis levels.

The Solution: RMIS Traceability Platform
Red Meat Industry Services (RMIS) has developed a comprehensive traceability platform that addresses multiple farmer needs. The system centres on generating a Global Location Number (GLN) – a unique identifier that allows farmers to register their farm details and livestock inventory.
Key features include:
- Farm registration: Simple setup with farm name and stock details;
- Theft prevention: Traceability tools to combat livestock crime;
- Market intelligence: Real-time pricing including mid-prices and winner prices; and
- Decision support: Data to help farmers determine optimal buying and selling times.
