This week’s AMT Fresh Produce Market Report by Dr Johann van der Merwe, Director of AMT.
The fresh produce market is under real pressure at the moment. After nearly two months of oversupply, Black Friday is pulling consumer spending away from essentials, and demand has slowed even further due to the recent rain and the G20 clean-up in Joburg.
On the fruit side, table grapes are stealing the spotlight. The new season has kicked off, volumes are rising quickly, and prices are already under pressure. If this pace continues, we could see grapes dropping below R20 before the end of the year.
