The production auction of Jean and Roe du Plessis of Elandsnek near Strydenburg, which was held on 1 October at the Hopetown showground, yielded affordable Meatmasters – “farm sheep for Africa”, as promised in its marketing.

The most expensive Meatmaster was GE 256, a two-toothed ram, which was sold for R55 000 to Tom Erasmus of Lelievlei near Robertson. The average price of the 38 stud rams was R11 513 and that of the 12 herd rams R7 458.
The average price of the female animals was R3 288 for 34 pregnant ewes, R4 175 for 29 ewes with lambs, R10 000 for two 3-in-1 ewes and R2 788 for 34 non-pregnant ewes.
Vleissentraal Port Elizabeth hosted the auction and Hennie Goosen was the auctioneer.
