According to the Weather Service, 113mm was measured at Graskop in Mpumalanga from 07h00 Saturday to 07h00 Sunday, with 73mm to 85mm measured around Phalaborwa in the same period.
Rainfall of 73mm to 85mm was measured over parts of the Lowveld in Limpopo.
The heavy rainfall is caused by a strong tropical low-pressure system moving over the northeastern parts of South Africa.
The weather service issued the level 9 and 6 warnings on Sunday and reiterated these warnings on its Facebook page again on Monday morning. The areas that can be affected are the eastern Lowveld of Limpopo and the Bushbuckridge municipal area in Mpumalanga, as well as the municipal areas of Ba-Phalaborwa, Collins Chabane and the greater Giyani.
The level 6 orange warning applies to a wider area of the eastern parts of Limpopo and the eastern parts of Mpumalanga.
The weather service warns the rainfall could lead to flooding in places, disrupt services and inundate roads. Residents are asked to be careful.
In the meantime, a warning for extremely hot conditions has been issued for parts of the Western Cape.
