The future of South Africa’s red meat industry will be under the spotlight at the Red Meat Revolution information day, taking place on 21 January 2026 at the Silverlakes Farm Hotel in Pretoria. Featuring international speakers such as Kit Pharo and PJ Budler, the event promises to equip farmers with fresh insights, practical strategies and a renewed perspective on sustainable and profitable beef production.
Focusing on innovative approaches across the red meat value chain, the event brings together experts, breeders and producers to discuss key challenges and bottlenecks facing the industry. The programme starts at 08:00 with registration, coffee and tea, after which Pieter Moller will officially open the day at 09:00.
One of the programme highlights is a presentation by Dr Bobbie van der Westhuizen of SA Stud Book, who will provide insight into the role of genetics, performance data and record-keeping in a modern beef production system.
Shortly thereafter, internationally renowned breeder and consultant Kit Pharo will share his experience and insights into a practical, profitable and sustainable approach to beef farming – a topic of growing importance amid rising input costs and other pressures producers face on a daily basis.
Following a coffee break, an informal panel discussion will take place featuring Pharo alongside PJ Budler, Richard Haupt and Johan van der Nest. The discussion promises to be honest, relevant and farmer-focused, with an emphasis on real on-farm challenges and solutions that work under South African conditions.
The day will conclude with a summary by Moller, after which lunch will be served at 13:30. The cost is R500 per person, which includes meals.
The Red Meat Revolution information day is supported by several key stakeholders in the red meat industry, including Pannar, Bayer, SA Stud Book, Silverlakes Farm Hotel, WA Genetics, Meerkat Online Auctions and Landbouweekblad.
