Vleissentraal hosted an excellent production auction on 28 January on behalf of Henro and Cecil van der Merwe’s Hencil Dohne Merino stud on the farm Grootvlei in the Barkly East district.
Gavin Isted
Philip Dark and Donna Green bought the most expensive ram on behalf of Michael Myburgh from Ugie for R35 000.
Average prices were as follows:
- Stud rams R13 760
- Ewes pregnant with singletons R3 000
- Ewes pregnant with twins R3 200
- Stud ewes pregnant with singletons R3 670
- Stud ewes pregnant with twins R3 400
Hencil Dohnes was founded in 1999 and this auction was its 19th production auction. According to Henro van der Merwe, they are very pleased with the prices, especially those achieved by the pregnant ewes, and this is a good sign for the future of the sheep industry. This is the first auction he has presented since his grandfather started the stud in 1999 and stepped down in 2025 to make way for the new generation.
The auctioneer was André van Zyl.
