A two-year-old Boerbok stud ram fetched the highest price of R100 000 at the 4 Africa breeders group’s summer auction, held at the Fire & Wine Centre in Pretoria on 7 February.

A total of 114 lots were offered at the auction, achieving a turnover of more than R1,63 million. The group’s winter auction will be held in July.
The breeders of the top-priced ram, 1740-2402-06 – a Steelpoint son, are Jaco Myburgh and his wife, Melissa, of the Milamiek stud at Thabazimbi. JDB Farming purchased the ram.
Other members of the selling group are Hein Booysen of Kuruman, Haraldo Smith on behalf of the Karsten farm at Kanoneiland, Jacques Pretorius of Kuruman, Connie Coetzee of Prieska and Leonard du Raan of Pretoria.

Highest Prices and Averages of Rams and Ewes
The average price of the stud rams was R29 125 and that of the herd rams R24 454. The most expensive herd ram, also from the Milamiek stud, fetched R40 000.
The most expensive stud ewe, 430-23-172 from Booysen, fetched R52 000, pushing the average price of stud ewes to R15 256. Booysen’s most expensive herd ewe, 430-23-37, fetched R25 000 and the average price for herd ewes was R11 908.
