The award-winning Dohne-Merino stud All-in-One Crux of Wikus Bekker at Edenburg can boast relatively high average prices and a 100% sale rate at the stud’s 22nd production sale on 5 February 2026.

By Johan Norval

The offer of 65 rams fetched an average price of R13 269, with the most expensive ram selling for R60 000 to AJ van der Merwe of Anjo-Dohnes at Reddersburg.

Bekker was again named Free State regional winner of the Dohne-Merino Sheep Breeders’ Society’s Top Breeder competition. The winner of the biennial competition will be announced at a gala function during the breed’s world conference in October this year.

Bekker was the national winner in 2024, and also holds the designation of Dohne-Merino Man in 2020 and Voermol’s national sheep farmer in 2023.

In addition to the top price of R60 000, four other rams were sold at good prices to Telwiedré of Heilbron (R50 000), Sweetfield Farm of Trompsburg (R45 000), GG Besigheidstrust of Helenashoop near Barkly-Oos and the Lategan Hofmeyr Farm of Weltevrede (both R30 000).

A total of 49 non-pregnant two-toothed ewes achieved an average price of R2 850, 260 non-pregnant ewes (four-toothed to full-mouthed) R2 900, and 315 non-pregnant weaned ewes R2 250.

BKB presented the auction on the farm Geluksdam, with JP Marais as auctioneer.
