Bennedicter Mhlongo – Benica Farms
Bennedicter Mhlongo, popularly known as Benica, is a multi-award-winning commercial farmer and founder of Benica Farms in Rooiboklaagte near Acornhoek, Mpumalanga.
A former professional nurse, he left his career in 2013 to farm full-time, growing a backyard garden into a 10-hectare SAGAP-certified horticulture enterprise.
Co-owning the farm with his wife, Veronica, he produces vegetables such as cabbage, spinach and tomatoes, supplying retailers including SPAR and local fruit markets.
Mhlongo is also a mentor and advocate for youth empowerment. He authored Chronicles of a Farmer’s Life (2025), with a second book set for release in 2026.

African Farming Agri-Development Imbizo
The third African Farming Agri-Development Imbizo is designed to help turn that ambition into action.
Taking place on 26 and 27 March at Time Square Hotel in Pretoria, this two-day event will bring together more than 200 farmers, agribusiness entrepreneurs, policymakers, financiers and industry leaders. The goal is clear: To align resources, unlock opportunities and strengthen partnerships that will accelerate the growth of South Africa’s new generation of commercial farmers.
Hosted by African Farming, the Imbizo builds on a strong commitment to advancing black commercial agriculture through information-sharing, networking and development-driven platforms.
