Prices ranging from R750 000 for an Ankole bull calf to R6 000 for a breeding group of peacocks characterised the 12th production auction of Lasarus Game Farm, held on the farm Dorsland near Modimolle on 7 February this year.

The highest price achieved for Lasarus Game Farm’s own breeding at the auction was for its Ankole bull Bumblebee, which the Shalom Ankole stud bought from Louis Neethling of the Northern Cape for R700 000.
A four-month-old Ankole bull, bred from new breeding material, achieved the overall highest price of R750 000. Guest seller Kilima Horned Heritage of Tzaneen sold this calf, K25-023 Alexander the First of Kilima, to the Cattle Group (Ankoles) of Nico Lerm of Modimolle and Walter Kinnear of Gobabis. The calf was bred from new genetic material imported from Uganda to further strengthen Ankole breeding stock in South Africa.
Lerm, owner of Lasarus Game Farm, which operates farms near Modimolle and Albertinia, says he is very pleased with the prices achieved. He and Kinnear also sold a heifer, Miami, for R650 000 to the Amanzi stud and another heifer for R450 000 to Thaba Nyoni of Badplaas.
