The 20th production auction of Link Merinos, presented by Piet Louw of Swartkoppies at Jagersfontein and Jannie Alexander of Stofkraal at Trompsburg, went exceptionally well and achieved a high average price of R12 443 for the 62 stud rams.

Louw says they were concerned about the trend towards lower prices for production animals on the farm ahead of the auction on 12 February, but were pleasantly surprised by the prices achieved for the 3 096 store lambs and 682 slaughter lambs, as well as the 658 slaughter sheep (C grade).
Link Merinos is known for its successful participation in the annual Veld Merino Show of the Merino Development Committee of Region 3 (MOK 3) at the Bloem Show in Bloemfontein.
Louw’s most expensive ram (1189-240-161) was sold for R52 000 to G.B. Pienaar of Philippolis. The second most expensive ram (2013-240-510) from Alexander was sold for R46 000 to Strauss Jacobs of Zuurfontein, Fauresmith.
Jacobs also paid R46 000 for another Alexander ram and bought three rams from Louw at R25 000, R20 000 and R10 000 respectively.
The average prices were as follows: store lambs R1 667; slaughter lambs R2 107; 402 ewes (two-tooth, pregnant with a single lamb) R2 550; 66 ewes (two-tooth, pregnant with twins) R2 800; and slaughter sheep (C grade) R2 365.
Vleissentraal Port Elizabeth presented the auction in collaboration with the Meerkat platform, and André van Zyl was the auctioneer.
