Systems Taken Offline as Precaution
In January 2026, Land Bank temporarily shut down certain internal IT systems as a precautionary measure to protect its operations and sensitive information.
At the time, Rebecca Phalatse, Head of Communications and Marketing, said the move was necessary amid cybersecurity concerns affecting financial institutions globally.
“As a precautionary measure, certain internal IT systems of the Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa have been temporarily taken offline to protect our operations and information,” Phalatse said.
The disruption affected both the bank and its subsidiary, Land Bank Insurance Company, with some services and transactions experiencing temporary interruptions.

Response Teams Deployed
Phalatse confirmed that internal IT teams, supported by external cybersecurity specialists, were deployed to assess the situation and restore systems.
“Our internal IT teams, supported by external specialists, are actively working to assess the situation and restore full functionality securely and responsibly,” she said at the time.
She added that while some banking services were impacted, the bank remained focused on safeguarding its operations and the interests of its clients.
The response was overseen by senior leadership, including TM Rikhotso, Chief Executive Officer, KH Mukhari, Chief Financial Officer, and the board.

“We appreciate your patience and continued trust. We look forward to continuing to serve you. Should you require any assistance, please feel free to contact us,” he said.
