The man and woman, aged 20 and 40 respectively, were arrested on Friday, 17 April, in connection with the possession of suspected stolen livestock in Lichtenburg, North West.
The North West police say members of the crime intelligence division, acting on information received, stopped the suspects in a silver Hyundai, searched the vehicle and found the 12 live goats.
Both suspects were arrested at the scene and are expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The police investigation is continuing to determine whether the suspects can be linked to other livestock theft cases.
Major General Ryno Naidoo, acting provincial commissioner, commended the police members involved on their vigilance.

Illegal Cigarettes Found
In another police operation in the North West on Friday, 17 April, police officers on patrol in Dwarsberg, Rustenburg, received a tip-off about a truck suspected of transporting illegal cigarettes.
The vehicle was located and stopped and searched in Mabeskraal. This led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man from Botswana in connection with the possession of illegal cigarettes with an estimated street value of more than R2 million.
Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae, acting district commissioner of Bojanala sub-district 2, commended the officers, saying their actions demonstrate the police’s continued commitment to dismantling illegal trading networks that undermine the country’s economy and contribute to other forms of organised crime.
