The auction was held on 6 February at the Fire & Wine Arena in Pretoria. The club’s 37 members are mainly located within a radius of approximately 900 km around Pretoria and Rustenburg.
Quality once again set the tone. A registered ram from the Wilgeboom stud of Willem and Jalme Steenkamp of Calvinia, and a registered ewe with a lamb from the Kern stud of Nico Grobler of Kenhardt, achieved the highest prices.
The Steenkamps’ ram was sold for R24 000 to Willem and June van der Merwe. The ewe (210-265), a Kettie daughter and pregnant to Sheriff, was sold for R28 000 to André Botes and Boeta Luttig of Bietou Meatmasters at Prins Albert. Grobler also sold another pregnant registered ewe (210-364), a Blokman daughter, for R26 000.
The average prices were as follows: ewes R4 662, ewes with lambs R5 000, pregnant ewes R5 101, registered ewes R5 383, pregnant registered ewes R6 900, ewes with lambs R10 900, rams R11 833 and registered rams R14 300.
The auction was presented by CdP Auctioneers, with PW van Heerden serving as auctioneer.
