Rainbow Chicken Limited is not just making noise in the poultry sector – it is making music too. But rather than celebrating chickens or products, its newly released song, “We Are Rainbow”, shines the spotlight on the people behind the brand.

According to Gugulethu Mtshali, corporate communications manager, the idea for the song emerged in late 2024 as the company’s turnaround strategy neared completion. “We wanted to bring the phrase ‘we are Rainbow’, often used by CEO Marthinus Stander, to life,” she explains.
Recognising music’s unique ability to unite South Africans, the team partnered with Candice McMillan to craft lyrics that reflect the company’s identity and spirit. While the initial version resonated, the team knew it needed a more authentic touch – one that could only come from within the organisation.
That authenticity came to life through Rainbow’s own talent. With Stander on drums and Ettienne Thiebaut on guitar, alongside the P1 site choir, the song became a true internal collaboration. Lead vocalist Zama Ludidi, supported by Precious Tshifulufhelwi and Mtshali herself, brought the track to life with powerful vocals.
Launched at the company’s leadership conference in February, “We Are Rainbow” was met with an overwhelming sense of pride and connection. It has since been shared across internal platforms, with employees encouraged to create their own dance moves – turning the song into a company-wide movement.
Mtshali says the response has already been remarkable. “You can feel the uniting power of music and of our song,” she says, as teams across the country embrace the anthem.
