BKB hosted a highly successful production auction for Dries Pienaar’s White Wools stud on his farm Collingham in the Molteno district on 11 February.

The auction delivered excellent results in what can be described as economically challenging conditions. The 57 rams sold achieved an impressive average price of R16 474, representing a 45% increase on the average price of R11 358 achieved at last year’s auction.
The top ram of the day was lot 2, which realised an exceptional price of R95 000, highlighting the high quality of the breeding material on offer.
Chris Blignaut from the farm Lushoff at Meyersdal was the buyer of this ram.
The White Wools Dohne Merino stud distinguishes itself as one of the first stud operations to introduce the advanced DSS system for its sheep. The primary objective of this system is for each production unit – each ewe or cow – to perform optimally.
Dries Pienaar said the auction performed very well. He emphasised that the top rams were sold to different stud breeders, while the commercial rams were competitively priced and sold well. With the breeding season ahead, he aims to continue utilising the genetics of his productive ewes to breed rams that will add value to his clients’ operations.
JP Marais served as auctioneer.
