This week’s AMT Fresh Produce Market Report by Dr Johann van der Merwe, Director of AMT.
Potato prices have crashed, bananas dropped, and now protests in Johannesburg could put even more pressure on fresh produce demand.
But it is not all bad news. Tomatoes, onions and table grapes are still showing strong price levels.
The biggest risk in the fresh produce market this week may not only be higher volumes, but weaker demand. With protests in Johannesburg possibly keeping some buyers away from the markets, we will need to watch closely how this affects sales volumes and prices over the next few days and weeks.
