This week’s AMT Fresh Produce Market Report by Dr Johann van der Merwe, Director of AMT.
Most vegetable markets remain under pressure due to high volumes, especially potatoes, onions and carrots.
Month-end demand could provide some support this week, but the upside may be limited while supply remains strong.
Fruit markets are currently mixed. Bananas, oranges and avocados remain under pressure, while table grapes are moving higher as local volumes decline. Apples and pears are also well supported by strong export demand.
Overall, exports are helping to remove some supply from our local markets, but where volumes remain high, prices will likely stay under pressure for now.
