GH Muller & Son held its seventh production auction with great success on 11 May.

Gert Hendrik Muller, better known as Gertjie Muller, farms with his wife, Mariska and their children on the farm Fonteintjie just outside Frankfort. Together they have built the GH Muller & Son name into a well-established brand in the community, particularly known for its Boer goat, long-tailed sheep and fat lamb auctions.
What made this auction especially successful was the fact that the Muslim community’s Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, was approaching. This community supports the GH Muller auction loyally every year.
The prices achieved pleasantly surprised both the sellers and the BKB team that presented the auction. According to auctioneer Roelof Heenop, the auction exceeded their wildest expectations and they were extremely pleased with the results achieved on the day.
He thanked the loyal buyers for their support and contribution to the success of the auction.
Highlights of the auction
- A total of 5 044 sheep were sold at an average price of R58,34/kg.
- A total of 214 goats were sold. The most expensive goat was bought by FAJ Odendaal of Frankfort for R12 000.
- Ewes with lambs achieved an average price of R6 202, while the highest-priced lot was purchased for R7 200 by FG Fritz of Standerton.
- Open and pregnant ewes achieved an average price of R3 694, with the highest price of R5 250 also paid by FAJ Odendaal.
- Wethers achieved an average price of R4 600.
To add variety to the day, poultry was also offered for sale. This interesting section attracted considerable attention.
According to Gertjie Muller, there were concerns about the weather conditions as well as the shortage of heavy lambs, but despite this he remains deeply grateful for the successful outcome of the day.
