Fresh produce markets are under pressure again this week, with potatoes, onions and citrus struggling, while tomatoes and table grapes are telling a very different story.
Weak demand, rising supply pressure and the public holiday on Tuesday could make this a tricky week on the markets. If stock builds up and larger volumes arrive on Wednesday, vegetable prices may remain under pressure in the short term.
Potatoes could continue to trade under pressure, while onions are likely to maintain their downward trend. Carrots may also feel the impact of building supply. Tomatoes, however, could remain at elevated levels due to very low volumes, even though demand is still weak.
Fruit markets remain mixed. Bananas, avocados and citrus are still facing pressure from weak demand or high seasonal supply, while apples, pears and table grapes are receiving better support from lower local volumes and stronger export demand.
