A Blue Bulls link secured the most expensive Boer goat stud ram at the prestige auction of Lukas and Abraham Burger of Griekwastad on 16 May.

The auction, presented by the Burgers and guest sellers at EnGedi Manor in Krugersdorp, achieved a turnover of R1,737 million.
Christiaan Dreyer, a friend of JF van Heerden of Aqua Hill Trading in Bloemhof, purchased the ram Bucks on behalf of the Van Heerden family for R250 000.
JF van Heerden, who currently serves with the Blue Bulls, is a former learner of Grey College in Bloemfontein.
Bucks, bred by the Burgers, boasts a pedigree featuring renowned sires such as Starbucks, Supreme and the Booysen ram Pablo.
The Burgers collaborated with leading goat breeders, including Salmon van Huyssteen (Pretoria), Louis Passano (Thabazimbi), Lize Visagé (Louis Trichardt), Andries Volgraaff (between Worcester and Wolseley) and the VEA stud breeders (Bonnievale).
The 12 Boer goat stud rams achieved an average price of R62 000, while seven commercial Boer goat rams averaged R13 000. The two Kalahari Red rams achieved an average price of R26 500.
The most expensive pregnant stud ewe sold for R60 000. The buyer was Dries van der Merwe of the VDM stud near Bloemhof.
The average prices achieved were R23 571 for the 14 pregnant Boer goat stud ewes, R18 250 for stud ewes with lambs at foot, R18 571 for seven open stud ewes, R20 000 for commercial ewes with lambs at foot and R14 923 and R10 200 respectively for pregnant and open commercial ewes.
The auction was presented by André Kock & Son in collaboration with CdP Auctioneers. Deon Klopper served as auctioneer.
