The Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (LDARD) is inviting qualifying hemp permit holders in the province to apply to participate in its hemp pilot project, which will provide selected farmers with production inputs and small infrastructure support.

To qualify, applicants must:
- hold a Limpopo hemp permit, operating in accordance with the Plant Improvement Act 11 of 2018
- be previously disadvantaged South African citizens aged 18 years or older
- have the capacity to act on behalf of the legal entity they represent
- have security of tenure or valid land-use rights for the land where production will take place
- have water-use registration or a licence in accordance with the National Water Act 36 of 1998
Public servants are not eligible. This includes people employed by government, public representatives at national, provincial or municipal level, and recognised traditional leaders who are government employees.

Documents required
Farmers interested in participating must submit a completed and signed application form together with supporting documentation, including:
- A copy of a valid hemp permit.
- A valid lease agreement or Permission to Occupy (PTO) from a tribal authority, or a certified copy of the title deed.
- A certified copy of the applicant’s South African ID.
- A business plan for the hemp enterprise.
- A valid water-use document or copy of a water-use rights certificate.
- A valid market security agreement or off-take agreement.
Applications should be submitted to the relevant district officials listed by the department for Capricorn, Sekhukhune, Vhembe, Mopani and Waterberg districts.
Applications close on 11 August 2026 at 16:30.
