Buyers from far and wide snapped up Richter Simbra’s top breeding genetics at the stud’s 21st production auction. Two of these outstanding bulls will soon be flown to their new home in Cameroon.

This year’s online auction, hosted by SwiftVEE in collaboration with Vleissentraal, featured 29 carefully selected bulls that, according to stud owner Chris Richter, reflect the genetic progress achieved by the stud over many years. “I am very passionate about Simbra breeding and therefore strive to offer animals of quality and value every year,” Richter said in his welcome address. “I am deeply grateful for the well-established cow herd we have built over the years, which has made this quality offering possible.”
The sale produced an average price of R114 483 per bull, surpassing last year’s average of R112 000. A total of 15 bulls sold for more than R100 000.
“I am always pleased and grateful when the average auction price increases from year to year, as it reflects the genetic depth within the herd,” Richter said.
The top-priced bull was lot 2, a polled bull named Pavarotti (JHR22624), which was bought by Jenet van Niekerk of Zarissa Simbras near Ficksburg for R300 000.
International demand was evident, with two bulls destined for Cameroon. Lot 1 (JHR23221) sold for R160 000, while lot 4 (JHR22711) fetched R200 000. Both were purchased by Ibrahim Abba.
“Our bulls perform well across the country because of their genetics and the way we manage them up to the auction,” Richter said. He added that the stud’s emphasis on fertility, growth, adaptability and production efficiency has made its genetics increasingly sought after by both stud breeders and commercial cattle producers.
The production auction has been conducted exclusively online for the past few years. This year’s sale was hosted from the conference centre at Emoya Estate, where several buyers attended in person and placed bids on their preferred lots. Ian Grobbelaar was the auctioneer.
Richter expressed his appreciation to the loyal buyers who return every year, as well as the new buyers who secured some of this year’s top bulls.
