Top-quality Beefmaster genetics attracted strong buyer interest at the annual ALS Beefmaster production auction, where a bull sold for R130 000 and all categories achieved solid average prices.

The ALS Beefmaster group and Erhard Prinsloo’s Dreamworld Beefmasters of Ermelo hosted a successful annual production auction on 15 July at the ALS group’s farm, Maarmanshoek, in the Memel district. A total of 30 stud bulls, 80 pregnant cows and 60 pregnant heifers were offered, reflecting the stud farms’ emphasis on functional, fertile and profitable Beefmaster breeding stock.
The auction attracted excellent interest from buyers, and good average prices were achieved. The 30 bulls sold for an average of R77 666, while the 80 pregnant cows achieved an average of R18 178 and the 60 pregnant heifers averaged R18 464.
The ALS group sold the most expensive bull of the day. Bull ALS23-230 (lot 6) was purchased for R130 000 by the TR Smit Family Trust in the Harrismith district. The strong demand for top-quality breeding material reaffirmed buyers’ confidence in the breeding programme and the quality of ALS Beefmasters’ offering.
