PROMOTION:

Philagro Animal Nutrition, a division of Philagro South Africa, is ready to distribute Creamino, an advanced animal nutrition supplement that is taking the world’s livestock sector by storm.

Developed and manufactured by AlzChem in Germany, Creamino is a feed additive formulated for pigs and poultry which is processed into creatine by the animal’s own body, providing additional energy for healthy growth. This allows farms to reduce the total amount of feed input. The use of Creamino can lead to significant cost savings for livestock farmers and to an overall reduction of the ecological footprint in terms of feed production and transport.

The German manufacturer is investing €50 million in a new production plant for the feed additive and intends to triple its capacity by mid-2019 to meet increasing international demand.

According to Ulli Seibel, board chairman of the AlzChem Group, Creamino was developed between 2005 and 2009 and exemplifies the company’s strategy to focus on high-quality specialty chemicals, benefitting from megatrends such as global population growth.

“Creamino is a sustainable product in the best sense of the word,” he adds. “It reduces the ecological footprint of livestock farming while supporting supply security for our rising world population.”

Divan Swart, product manager at Philagro Animal Nutrition, emphasises the company’s commitment to contribute to the stable supply of safe and nutritious animal feed products in a responsible and environmentally friendly manner. The company will commence distribution of Creamino in January 2019 through its distributor network in South Africa and various other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Creamino is guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) which is the direct precursor in creatine production in the animal’s body. By supplementing Creamino, the body-own synthesis is optimised, saving a lot of effort and energy in the body. Creamino is condensed energy, allowing for savings by means of sparing energy of other feed ingredients, optimal muscle growth and better food conversion. Creamino is therefore a highly innovative nutritional concept focussing on cellular health, leading to cost savings and performance improvements.

“These qualities offer substantial benefits to farmers in Africa,” Swart explains. “Reduction of high-cost feed ingredients, higher muscle meat yield, and lean body mass increase are factors of great importance to poultry farmers. These factors, as well as supporting the animal’s general health by promoting a more robust immune system, will ultimately lead to a lower mortality rate and increased heat tolerance.”

The growing market for feed additives is driven by the mounting world population. According to the United Nations, the world’s population is expected to rise to 8.5 billion by 2030. At the same time, the land available for agricultural purposes will become more and more limited. This scenario points to the increasing importance of efficient agricultural processes and consistent supply.
