Agritech Expo Zambia 2017: More exhibitors, more visitors

The fourth Agritech Expo – Zambia’s premier agricultural show – rolls around again from 27 April to 29 April at Chisamba in Central Province.

This year, the organisers expect more than last year’s 17 605 visitors to descend on the Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (Gart) farm in Zambia’s agri-hub, where the latest farming products and services will be showcased.

Coillard Hamusimbi, the head of services and agribusiness for the Zambia National Farmers Union, owners of the show, said the Expo is aimed at farmers from all levels, agricultural businesses, development agents, government agents and policy makers.

He said the goal of the expo is to bring together all these role-players to search for solutions to increasing incidences of pest outbreaks and stock diseases, adverse weather, deteriorating soil health and fertility, dwindling productivity, inadequate irrigation and mechanisation.

Agritech Expo 2017 has been designed specifically to give farmers the innovations and business connections they need to move their farming and agribusinesses to the next level,” said Coillard.

INTERNATIONAL PAVILIONS

The three-day expo will feature a greater international presence with pavilions from Germany, Zimbabwe, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UK and France already confirmed. Agritech Expo will once again offer free workshops, machinery and product demonstrations and crop trials. New features this year will be specialised agri-sector industry zones and mowing and baling demonstrations.

Event organiser – Spintelligent – praised the Zambia National Farmers Union, owners and founders of the show: “They built the event from scratch in a field in the middle of Zambia, their commitment, blood, sweat and tears bear testimony to the unique qualities of this event,” said Emmanuelle Nicholls, natural resources group director of Spintelligent.

The expo also has an outreach programme at the local Golden Valley Basic School. With the help of event sponsors, the expo is assisting the school with infrastructure upgrades, equipment supplies and management of the school farm.

As in previous years, Agritech Expo enjoys extensive support from the industry with well-known suppliers Afgri and John Deere returning as platinum sponsors. Confirmed gold sponsors are Action Auto, Agricon, BHBW, Case Construction, Case Agriculture, Gourock and Saro.
