Champion ox sold at Eeram fatstock auction

The champion ox at the Eeram Farmers’ Association of Harrismith centenary fatstock show and auction was sold for a good market-related price.

The ox fetched R21 250 and was bred by Ferrero Bonsmaras from Harrismith. The directors are Kiewiet and Annie Ferreira and their sons, Nelius, Theo and Johan. They focus on stud breeding and the breeding of weaners that are finished in their own feedlot and then yield about 62%.

Nelius says they usually enter far fewer cattle for the Eeram fatstock show and auction, but because it is their centenary this year, they took 400 cattle to the show.
