Lungu rings in changes at Zambian Ministry of Agriculture

Zambian Agriculture Minister Dora Siliya has been moved and replaced by Fisheries and Livestock Minister, Michael Katambo.

President Edgar Lungu’s Spokesperson, Amos Chanda, announced the changes on Wednesday.

Siliya has been moved to Ministry of Broadcasting and Information. She will also act as the government’s Chief Spokesperson. The incumbent, Kampamba Mulenga was appointed Fisheries and Livestock Minister.

Siliya’s tenure at the Ministry of Agriculture had been characterised by 2 consecutive seasons of late and chaotic distribution of farming inputs under the government’s Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).

It was not clear whether the outcry over delayed inputs prompted her transfer.

Other changes saw the Minister of Finance, Felix Mutati, being moved to Works and Supply, with Commerce Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe stepping into the role.

The Ministry of Water and Sanitation, another key ministry that affects farming, saw a shift in personnel with the Minister Lloyd Kaziya being dropped from Cabinet and replaced by incumbent Minister of General Education Dennis Wachinga.
