Zambia is braced for more floods in most parts of the country due to continued extreme rainy conditions.
The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit’s (DMMU) weather warning is still in place, with people in flood-prone areas told to take precautions. The DMMU urged people to move to safe areas and seek guidance from local authorities to ensure no lives are lost.
This followed reports of several people being injured when some buildings collapsed. Heavy rains swept across the country over the weekend and hundreds of houses have been washed away and some rural road networks are impassable.
Families have been left homeless in Central, Southern, Lusaka, and North-Western provinces. The Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) said more heavy rains were still expected to fall in the next few weeks.
