Nigeria, Farm-To-Folk Initiative launched

Springfield Agro Limited,  in partnership with Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd announced its partnership with Katsina State Government and launched the Farm-To-Folk initiative.

The Farm-To-Folk initiative aims to develop agriculture and farming ecosystems in Nigeria, providing solutions for the farming community’s needs.

Empowerment

The $19 billion US Mahindra Group will not only provide tractors and farm equipment solutions, but transfer knowledge.

The Katsina State Government aims to increase food production, food security and ensure sustainable development.

This while improving income and the quality of life for its resource-poor population in villages, emphasising Farm Tech Prosperity.

Two agri centers, Chibiyar Chi Gaban Manoma  and the Gromost Centre will empower farmers with knowledge including of soil, seeds, micro-irrigation and harvesting and relevant method for crops management

Launch

Mahindra and Mahindra is the largest tractor manufacturer with a capacity of 5,000 tractors.

A total of 225 tractors will be commissioned by Aminu Masari, Katsina State Governor  in line with governments efforts to encourage farming, increase support for the growth of farmers’ unions and agro-based associations

“Our intention is to deploy adequate farm machineries and mechanization to a level that will boost agricultural productivity to at least 50 percent of international standards,” said Executive Governor, Katsina State Alhaji Aminu Masari.

Speaking on the Farm to Fork initiative, Ashok  Thakur,  Vice President  and Head of Operations – Africa  Business, Mahindra  & Mahindra  Ltd. said, “at Mahindra our core belief is that an informed farmer is an empowered farmer and we are delighted to provide them with resources to reap the most from what they sow.

Dr. Abba Abdullah, Special Advisor to the Governor  on Agriculture said, “the small window available for sowing & harvesting enhances the need for mechanization in agriculture.”
