The Zambia Meteorological Department (ZMD) has advised farmers to protect their harvest against possible rain damage, after rain in Luapula and North Western Provinces.
“The rains may continue in the areas that have recorded some already. Therefore, farmers are advised to secure their harvest,” said Loveness Nikisi, ZMD meteorologist.
Nikisi said the sporadic rain was caused by the Congo air boundary, which met winds from the Indian Ocean.
Kawambwa in Luapula recorded 3mm, while North Western’s Zambezi received 1mm.
Meanwhile, the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) urged farmers to sell their crop before the marketing season closes.
FRA Executive Director Chola Kafwabulula said the agency had already bought 7 million 50kg bags of maize. Its target is 10 million bags.
