This avocado farmer now sells online – and you can too!

If you’re thinking of selling your products online, Farm Direct offers a simple solution.

Tobias van den Heever decided to register his farm, Olivier Boerdery, online in 2020. Situated on the Soutpansberg range just outside of Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, the farm cultivates avocados, macadamia nuts and, on a smaller scale, proteas.

“We used to drop off our harvest at the storehouse, but this year we decided to do things differently and sell it ourselves. Farming organically, which means we don’t use any harmful fertiliser, substances or unnatural insecticides, is hard work. On Olivier, each item is farmed by hand, from start to finish. If our organic avocados are then mixed with other crops, what’s the point?”

This encouraged Tobias to register Olivier Boerdery on Farm Direct and distribute their products nationwide.

“Farm Direct definitely put Olivier Boerdery on the map,” says Tobias.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to market our products and farm in this manner because their service is fantastic, and the platform is very user-friendly. I’m behind the wheel of my tractor, busy farming, the whole day, so Farm Directs has helped me save time. I highly recommend the platform to any farmer.”

Farm Direct is a new, innovated website that offers farmers the opportunity to sell their products directly to consumers. The importance of online shopping was highlighted in 2020, and it’s predicted that the ecommerce sector will continue to grow as both producers and consumers look for ways sell and buy online. But most farmers don’t have the time to build and maintain a website, never mind market it. And this is where Farm Direct comes in. Its focus is on giving farmer exposure online. Farmers are responsible for the logistics surrounding the delivery of their products, but they don’t have to do any online admin.

If you’re thinking about selling your products online, then Farm Direct the solution.
