Johan Keyter, a retired policeman from Vereeniging in the Gauteng province of South Africa, says DIYers often waste time having to move between the place where they are working and the bench vice in the workshop.
To solve this problem, he mounted a bench vice on a tripod of angle iron at a comfortable height and added two sturdy wheels and an adjustable handle. “Seeing some of my farming friends struggling to do handiwork on their own encouraged me to develop the tripod bench vice.”
The device can, according to Johan, also be transported easily on a pick-up truck to where he is working in the lands.
The axle with the two wheels is attached just above the ground. The bench vice is bolted on the top plate, while the three legs are set wide apart, each with a plate foot for sturdiness. You can tip the structure onto its wheels and pull it with the adjustable steel handle.
