A bull was sold for R1,1 million and a pregnant cow with a calf fetched R280 000.
The bull (SB 19-219) that fetched the highest price belonged to Kosie Smith, owner of Smith Brangus in Douglas and chairman of the Brangus Cattle Breeders Society.
Kolver Mülke from Mülke Brangus in Douglas bought the bull. The price of R1,1 million is a new South African record for this breed. Smith also achieved a good price for another bull (SB 22-996) when a bid of R525 000 was struck. The buyer was Jaco Beyers from Jaberco Brangus, Makwassie.
The most expensive female animal (LHR 21-164) was a pregnant cow with a calf (3-in-1), which Leonard Roberts, owner of Kwaggas Brangus in Boshof, sold for R280 000. This is also a new South African record price. The buyer was Jobert van Zyl from Vooruitsig Brangus in Hertzogville.
Several other bulls fetched excellent prices. RC Malherbe from the Roechama stud in Hertzogville sold a bull (RCM 21-88) for R375 000 to De Wet Booysen from Trio B Farming in Bloemfontein. Jimmy Roberts from Triangle Farms in Hertzogville also sold a bull (RO 21-363) for R375 000 to Jaberco Brangus in Makwassie.
Female animals also performed excellently. Besides the South African record price of R280 000, RC also sold a pregnant heifer (RCM 22-503) for R110 000 to Trio B Farming.
Good average prices
The average prices for the different animals were also excellent. At the auction, 52 bulls were sold for an average of R148 173. Three 3-in-1 cows fetched an average of R121 667. Three cows with calves were snapped up for an average of R38 333. Two open heifers were sold for an average of R52 500 and 18 pregnant heifers exchanged owners for an average of R40 722. Two pregnant cows fetched an average of R40 000.
